We will keep this brief so as not to give away too much of the tour. We aren't really 'tour' kinda people however recently some travelling friends (nomadnoodles) recommended this walking vegan tour and their rave review had us sold. The tour is run by Hieu, a dynamic, young Vietnamese man who is very knowledgeable … Continue reading Vegan Food Tour

Vietnamese Sundays! We are still adjusting to the later opening times in Perth so we were happy to come across Tra Vinh this morning in Northbridge open at 10am whilst everything else was still shut. The bun thit nuong is excellent (with an added spring roll) and the Cambodian enjoyed his bowl of pho. $30 total.
We live for a well executed breakfast and Peoples cafeteria might just be our new fav place for all day brekkie! We both went for eggs this morning - classic scrambled and truffle plus two coffees. Their deli is amazing too and we couldn’t leave without a sourdough loaf. $60 total.
You know what Sunday means - Viet food! We ventured into a very busy Northbridge today for our fix and we were more then satisfied. King Kuma, broth-judge extraordinaire reckoned this was top notch and really liked the selection of different meat (including waygu). $45 for short rib/oxtail pho and Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio.
Dinner last night at Billy Lees. Just over $60 for steamed chicken, sambal choi sum, hot and sour soup and fried rice plus two bevvys. It’s a great location to people watch as it’s tucked away down a little alley, looks like a pretty iconic Perth spot too if the hordes of people trying to get in were anything to go by. Lovely friendly staff also!
We tried out Trangs today. The com tam ga (with crispy chicken) and the pho are both really delicious and it ALMOST felt like we were back in Saigon given the music and atmosphere in the restaurant. The food comes out quick too. The broth police rated this place pretty high which says a lot - we have tried a lot of pho spots in the last few weeks and many have not even made it on to the score board. It’s worth the drive out for sure! $30 with complimentary tea as always.
One of things we miss the most about living in Asia is hotpot and last night we we didn’t hold back on indulging at Dragon Hotpot with some friends. It’s a pay-by-weight style model, you choose everything you want and then it’s cooked for you and brought to your table in one of these beautiful yellow bowls. In true Ate What Where style our eyes were much bigger than our stomachs and after weighing in at 2kg, we landed up with the biggest bowl in the restaurant. $85 with two cokes. We will definitely be back with less ambitious goals and go for something more manageable like our dining companions did!
